Radon Centres Ltd Tel: |
How can I test for radon gas? A simple test is available to assess radon gas levels in your home. Two detectors are sent to you by post. One is placed in the living area and the other sited in the main bedroom. This should take about two minutes. The detectors are left in place for three months and then returned to our laboratory, for analysis and report which is then returned to you. Our detectors are regularly checked for accuracy by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and our laboratory is fully validated. The test costs £40.00, including VAT and a pre-paid reply envelope, which includes two radon detectors, the analysis and report, and can be ordered by telephone. Payment is usually made using a credit card.
As the photographs show, the detectors are discreet and simple to use. There are maps and tables showing areas known to be affected by high levels of radon gas in the UK, but these only show statistical probabilities. The only way to determine the radon levels in your home is to test. The standard length of time for the test is three months, and this is still the most accurate way because radon levels fluctuate throughout the year. However, for conveyancing, there is now a seven day test, that follows HPA guidance on the use of short term radon measurements, that can be used for screening when buying or selling a house. We use the same technology as our validated three month detectors, but ensure that they have priority when the radon analysis is undertaken. The cost of this service is £54.00, including VAT and a pre-paid reply envelope. |
